I often hear people not picking up professions until they hit lvl 85 and use their hard earned gold to buy overpriced mats because they want to powerlevel their profession fast. What I would reccomand to do is make yourself a plan. What professions would you like to use at level 85? Maby enchanting? Maby alchemy, Its all up to you. When you have chosen what your profession at level 85 will be I want you to either pick up either Mining/Herbalism, Mining/Skinning or Herbalism/Skinning. If your goal at level 85 is to level Blacksmithing and Enchanting, Then atleast pick Mining and save all the ore and greens you get from leveling and send that to a specific bankcharacter that will store them for later use. When you hit level 85 then I want you to exchange your proffesion to the ones you planned on useing and use all the material you collected during leveling and make sure you craft the best item costwise if the item can be sold on the AH then sell it there. The material you collected during leveling will probably not be enough to max your new profession but it will be a very good start and when you do this you will actually make money from leveling your proffesion instead of losing money.
If you wanna maximize your income of gold you should have all profession at maximum level, thats someting that you will have to work on overtime because it takes alot of time but its very doable and very important.
